The opportunities for eco-tourism in Indonesia are growing for both travelers and local communities. A new awareness is coming to play in the market, with local community and government leaders awakening to the potential that sustainable travel brings for their regions.

With over 7,000 islands, Indonesia is a huge archipelago with a wide variety of habitats and cultures. Popular areas include Bali, with its rich cultural heritage and excellent tourism infrastructure, and Sumatra, with easy access and a wide variety of volcano and jungle trekking and projects like the orangutan rescue. Lesser know areas like Sulawesi are also entering the market, expanding their reach slowly beyond sport divers, who have long frequented the island.
